Help provided to people with special needs
In this section you will find useful information related to means of facilitation provided by the Library to students and other people with disabilities and special needs.
Two librarians and staff members of the Departments of Kozani, i.e. Mrs. Theodora Trigoni and Mr. Georgios Koukouliatas, have attended seminars of support for Visually Impaired People in the premises of the Library, offered by the Library of the University of Western Macedonia.
With the support of the Third CSF by the Operational Program for Education and Initial Vocational Training, the digital Portal of the Library has been developed, which corresponds to the latest trends in Web Accessibility, while taking into consideration the latest international standards that recommend specific programming codes aiming to largely facilitate visually impaired people.
The Library of UOWM has started co-operation with the Office for People with Special Needs of the Alexander Technological Educational Institute of Thessaloniki. Additionally, it is informed about the people with special needs studying at the UOWM, with a view to enriching the collection with the appropriate material and to developing new services.
Lastly, the access of people with reduced mobility to the Library is facilitated by a device that lifts wheelchairs, at the side of the stairs, leading up to the main entrance of each Department.
