Copyright

Legal framework

In Greece, the Law that protects intellectual property is 2121/1993 (Official Journal A 25 1993). This law has been amended by

  1. Law 3057/2002 (Official Journal 239/Á/10.10.2002) [Article 81] – Directive 2001/29/EC of the European Parliament and of the Council of 22 May 2001 on the harmonization of certain aspects of copyright and related rights in the information society and other provisions, and
  2. Law 3524/2007 (Official Journal 15/Á/26.1.2007) – Harmonization of Greek legislation with Directives 2001/84/EC and 2004/48/EC of the European Parliament and the Council of 27 September 2001 and 29 April 2004 on the resale right for the author of an original work of art and enforcement of intellectual property rights and other relevant provisions.

Policy of the University of Western Macedonia

The University of Western Macedonia urges all the members (academic and research staff, administrative staff, students) to be informed of their responsibilities in regard to intellectual property rights and to ensure that they do not infringe these rights when providing digital material through computational and online systems and infrastructures of the University.

UOWM, considering the issue of infringement of copyright and related rights to be a serious matter, explicitly declares that the unauthorized provision of archives containing material protected with intellectual property rights is unlawful, contrary to the policy of the University and it is a serious matter involving potential civil and criminal responsibility of the University as a whole and of the network users engaging in the provision in question as individual natural persons. The UOWM strongly discourages provision of such archives and requests not to provide and distribute material protected with intellectual property rights through our University’s Network (including the links of “DIODOS” Action – ADSL for Students and Teaching staff for for Students and Teaching staff of Higher Education Institutions or Technological Educational Institutions of Greece [see http://diodos.gsrt.gr/]), either via web pages or peer-to-peer software applications, webmail, etc. Any members of the University involved in unlawful provision of material protected with intellectual property rights when using the Network –telecommunications systems and computers– of the UOWM do so in contrast to the existing legislation and policy of the UOWM, and therefore, on their own direct, personal responsibility and risk, which implies that they are fully responsible for any potential impact of their actions.
